Research Associate II/Senior Research Associate, Assay Development

Description

About the Position

This position will report to a Bioassay Development Scientist within the Assay Development Group in the Discovery Research Department and will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs advanced experiments following established methods.
  • Applies knowledge of scientific methodologies, techniques, processes and procedures in conducting more technically demanding analyses. Troubleshoots methods and suggests novel and impactful changes to methods.
  • Plans out next set of experiments to be performed in order to properly advance program.
  • Documents raw and analyzed data. Independently interprets results and presents to team.
  • Prepares written reports and analysis of complex experiments.
  • May provide advanced technical guidance.
  • Reviews work of team members for thoroughness and completeness.
  • Seeks to understand ongoing projects through extensive attention to scientific literature and internally generated data.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, neat, organized and operational lab.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OH&S regulations and established policies and practices.
  • May co-author or author scientific papers.
  • Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management and external partners.

Qualifications and Education

  • RA II: Requires a BSc in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience (may include MSc) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SRA: Requires a BSc in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 5 to 8 years related experience (may include MSc) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. Results-oriented.
  • Critical observation skills and strong statistical analysis capability.
  • Excellent oral, presentation and scientific/technical writing skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in performing lab techniques and methods which may include:
    • ELISA
    • Electrochemiluminescence (Mesoscale MSD)
    • Homogeneous time-resolved fluorescence (HTRF) immunoassays
    • Flow cytometry
    • Protein purification
    • Mammalian tissue culture
    • Media and buffer preparation
    • Preparation of serial dilutions
    • Transient transfections of mammalian cell lines
    • Antibody drug conjugate assays
    • Reporter Gene Assays (luciferase, colourimetric)
    • Second messenger assays
    • Primary human immune cell isolation/depletion, expansion & culture (PBMCs, T cells, monocytes, macrophages, cDCs, pDCs)
    • Mouse husbandry, handling, and humane treatment
    • Mouse reagent administrations (i.p., s.c., and i.v.)
    • Mouse necropsy and tissue collection to support oncology and immunology disease models
    • Mouse primary immune cell isolation and culture
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the use of standard or specialized lab equipment which may include:
    • Multimode microplate readers
    • Flow Cytometers
    • High content imaging devices
    • Mesoscale MSD
    • Laboratory Automation (Lynx, Hamilton)
